Abstract

The properties of a periodic array of identical random subarrays are investigated. Repetition of identical subarrays helps mitigate a common complaint against random and other aperiodic arrays: that their lack of repetition makes fabrication more difficult. Pattern multiplication shows that interaction between the random and periodic aspects substantially reduces the magnitude of grating lobes compared to a periodic array.
