Abstract
Since the 1970's, a vareity of Americans have shown a fondness for British history. Many of them seem to seek relief from the racial conflict they find in American history and literature. The US media have not emphasized racial disturbances in Great Britain, which helps to account for this nostalgic appeal of things British to American audiences.
