Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This article examines Polish versions of English language search engines and homegrown Polish search engines. Questions of search capability and retrieval performance are considered. Main emphasis is given to the precision criterion, which is based on relevance judgements for the first 10 matches from each search engine. The overlap of retrieved documents and the response time for each search engine is also recorded. Of the five search engines evaluated. Polski Infoseek and Onet.pl had the best precision scores, and Polski Infoseek turned out to be the fastest Web search engine.
