Abstract

Visna is the encephalitic form of maedi-visna virus infection, a lentiviral infection of sheep, that has been previously reported in sheep in Iceland and the United Kingdom, but not in sheep in the United States. Clinical signs of visna are progressive weight loss, ataxia of the hind limbs, and a stumbling gait.
