Abstract

A new method of computing the response of linear beam-oscillator systems, where both the beam and the oscillators may be viscously damped, is shown. Closed form expressions for the forced response of such systems subjected to arbitrary loads are derived from modal analysis. The conditions for proportional damping of the system are given and discussed. When the damping is proportional, the system response, given by an infinite series, is exact.
