Abstract

Spent batteries are a problem for all types of automotive shops. Because they can leak, they are dangerous to handle and can make disposal difficult. In addition, new hazardous waste regulations have created some confusion about how to handle them. This fact sheet describes regulations governing spent batteries, and provides management tips, and lists of smelters, recyclers, and other firms that accept used automotive batteries.
