Abstract

We have measured the upper critical field Bc2(T) of Y2-xBaxCuO4-y with x=0.4 near Tc in dc fields up to 20 T and at 77 K with pulsed fields to 45 T. The data yield (dBc2/dT)T=Tc=1.3 T/K and Tc=89.5 K for the midpoint of the resistive transitions, and (dBc2/dT)T=Tc=51 T/K and Tc=95.1 K for the onset. The estimates for Bc2(0) range from 80 to 320 T. Pulsed-field data suggest that a fraction of the material is still superconducting above 45 T at 77 K.
