Abstract

Universities, colleges, polytechnic institutes, arts academies, and other postsecondary institutions have established archival programs to hold and make accessible the documentary heritage of those institutions in order to protect individual and institutional rights and to provide a cultural context for understanding of the institution’s past. University archives are managed by professional archivists following best practices of the archival field, but they are reflective of the distinctive history of the particular institution.
