For educators in student affairs, active engagement with social justice and inclusion is critical for the development of a campus environment that supports healthy success for all students. As products of broad ideological debates, colleges and universities reflect both the historical legacy and contemporary characteristics of American society. Contemporary sociopolitical discourse appears to have contributed to the frequency and intensity of such actions, placing targeted students in physical and emotional danger. To support the needs of a diverse student population in the midst of increasing sociocultural hostility and division, educators in student affairs should consider utilizing their professional status to advance social justice and inclusion at their campus. This chapter provides support for educators in student affairs working towards reshaping campus environments to support diverse student populations. It starts with an examination of contemporary issues that are shaping current practices and policies in higher education. It also focuses on identifying challenges and potential strategies for student affairs educators as they engage in equity and social justice work on their college campuses. Finally, the chapter concludes with specific recommendations and actions for practice.
