Abstract

A parameter estimation program, UCODE, was applied to improve a previously developed recharge/discharge pattern recognition procedure that uses a surface interpolator based on radial basis functions, a recharge/discharge mapping method, and the Pattern Recognition Utility (PRU), a GUI program utilizing image processing algorithms. The patterns (zones) are easy to generate using the PRU; the recharge/discharge rate is simply the average in the zone. By also using a parameter estimation program, the average recharge/discharge rates were significantly improved; moreover, other parameters (e.g. hydraulic conductivity) can also be estimated together with recharge/discharge rates. This paper shows the improvement of applying UCODE based on the test result from a field model.
