TWO-LEVEL PLANNING AND SCHEDULING APPROACH FOR COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING.

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

An emerging architecture for computer integrated manufacturing (C. I. M. ) systems is the cellular system. The scheduling method described in this paper takes into account the characteristics of local area network for communication. The system is treated as a loosely-coupled network of cooperating cells and the scheduling is carried out by a network-wide bidding scheme for determining the assignment of cells to given jobs dynamically. It is a distributed scheduling method in that no node in the network has greater importance, as far as scheduling is concerned, than any other node.
