Tropical cyclogenesis is the least understood phase of the tropical cyclone life cycle. This article provides an overview of the necessary large-scale conditions for tropical cyclone formation, the climatology and seasonality of tropical cyclone formation over different oceanic basins, as well as the theories and predictability of tropical cyclone formation.
