Abstract

The growing losses from these storms are hard to ignore. They have major implications for people (the victims), the insurance industry, government agencies responsible for responding to the major storms, structural design and construction firms, and the scientific community. Given the implications of such losses for so many sectors of society, many are asking questions, such as where are the worst storms located? Which storms are causing the most damage? And what could be causing this increased danger from severe weather?
