Abstract

Delftia tsuruhatensis strain was used to remove monochlorobenzene (CB) waste gas in a stirred bioreactor. The effect of silicone oil on the performance of the bioreactor was investigated. Moreover, the characteristics of oxygen and CB mass transfer were evaluated. The results show that the stirred bioreactor with the addition of 10% silicone oil (v/v) in the liquid phase can enhance CB removal performance. Its removal efficiency was 10%~23% higher than that of an ordinary stirred bioreactor under CB concentrations of 1 100~3 300 mg∙m-3. Moreover, the maximum elimination capacity in the stirred bioreactor with silicone oil was 1.4-fold of the ordinary stirred bioreactor. Furthermore, the addition of silicone oil significantly improved the oxygen mass transfer and increased the maximum mass transfer fraction of CB (β* s) by 47.8%. Therefore, silicone oil can enhance the biotreatment of CB in bioreactors.
