Abstract

The observation of traveling waves in numerical simulations of Boussinesq equations was discussed. The complex Ginzburg-Landau equation (CGLE) coefficients were calculated both theoretically and experimentally and both of them were found to be in agreement with each other. The mean flow was found to be significant for a rotating annulus and mean flow correlations were observed. The nonuniform thermal boundary conditions that led to the interacting waves and the phenomenon of mean flow correlations were also investigated.
