Abstract
As the first part of a general modelling study being conducted in conjunction with an actual field recharge project in the Palo Alto Baylands, a simulation model of the transport of ion-exchanging contaminants has been developed and tested. This paper presents the basic physical and chemical equations describing the transport phenomena. An analytical methodology is described which often can be used to predict certain key features of the contaminant breakthrough curves. Some preliminary results of the application of the model to a field injection experiment.
