Abstract

Cascading reactions, including the conversion of a TMSepoxy tetraene 1 into the hirsutellone tricyclic core 2, feature heavily in the first total synthesis of the antituberculosis fungal metabolite hirsutellone B. TMS=trimethylsilyl, LA=Lewis acid.
