Abstract

An essay is presented which discusses the relationship between music theory and ethnomusicology. Particular attention is also given to the role of social theory in the analysis of musical study, as the author addresses previous scholarly work by Timothy Rice. In addition, he examines the how theoretical activities that explore music and sound can be utilized within not only ethnomusicology, but the humanities and social sciences.
