Abstract

Recent progress has been made in the preparation of metal thiophene compounds as mechanistic models for HDS catalysts. Since HDS catalysts are prepared from metal oxides it is of interest to examine the reactivity of the ternary system M-O-thiophene. This report will summarize the synthesis, structures, and reactivity of species of the type ReOR4-where R = C4H3S, 2-MeC4H2S, benzothienyl, and dibenzothienyl. The behavior of these species will be contrasted with low valent Re compounds and oxo derivatives of other metals.
