Abstract
The optical and collisional properties of the ZnHg excimer have been examined by optically pumping the Zn (41S0→ 43P1) resonance line in Zn-Hg vapor mixtures. The stimulated emission cross-section determined for ZnHg* (2.3 × 10-19 cm2) and the excimer's low rate of quenching by Hg (5.5 × 10-15 cm3 s-1) make it attractive for future energy-storage laser research.
