Abstract
An essay on the series of debates about the place of classical republicanism within the political mentality of late Elizabethan England through a reading of the drama "Cornelia," by Thomas Kyd is presented. It suggests that "Cornelia" can be a revelatory document that gives its readers a look into the way republican motifs ran in relation to other kinds of political thought during the last years of Elizabeth's reign.
