Abstract

The Sahel has for many centuries been characterised by frequent droughts and flash floods. Today this causes many problems for the water resources management of the developing countries to the region. The purpose of the seminar was to assemble experts with knowledge of the hydrological problems existing in the Sahel. One of these problems is a severe shortage of hydrological information on the region. By bringing together as much information as possible it is hoped that long range solutions to water management problems can be established. Over 80 papers are presented (abstracted separately) in three main topic areas; surface water hydrology; hydrogeology; and water resources planning, management and impacts. -R.C.Medler
