The size of the tragic chorus

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

The tragic (and satyric) chorus throughout the fifth century B.C. was composed of twelve members. The tradition according to which the number was increased to fifteen is based on a mistaken understanding of the increase in the number of actors to three, which brought the total number of performers to fifteen.
