The position of the 4d94f 1P level relative to the ionization limit in Ba I

A recent identification in the absorption spectrum of atomic Ba (Ba I) of the 4d94f 1P level as lying above the ionization limit corresponding to ejection of a 4d electron is discussed. It is found that a Hartree-Fock calculation of this level places it below the ionization limit.
