The Invisibility of Lesbian and Gay Parents and Their Children within Adlerian Parenting Materials

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The author reviewed three Adlerian parenting texts, Active Parenting (Popkin, 2005), Positive Discipline A to AZ (Nielsen, Lotto, & Glenn, 1999), and New Beginnings (Pinkeye, Mucky, & Mucky, 1987), finding they generally disregard or de legitimize families headed by same-gender couples. She recommends including more same-gender couple representations in the materials' examples, addressing issues specific to families headed by same-gender couples, and providing external references for parents who must deal with particular issues.
