Abstract
A sample of tutors in pre-service teacher education was surveyed to establish their teaching goals, their teaching strategies and the attributes they believed essential for success in school teaching. Results indicate that the tutors use a limited range of instructional techniques, and that their goals are not related to their views about the desirable attributes of successful teachers.
