Abstract

While the experimental realization in ultracold Fermi alkali gases of the phenomenon we now call the "BEC-BCS crossover" was attained only in the last few years, theoretical considerations of this issue go back a lot further, and refer to other systems as well. In the first part of this chapter we review some of this history, while in the second half we make some general comments on the current theoretical situation with respect to the specific ultracold-gas implementation.
