Abstract

The status and distribution of terrestrial Oligochaeta in North America, including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Bermuda, is presented based upon records published in the literature. We currently recognize 253 species representing 59 genera in 10 families; of these, 186 species are considered native to North America, while 67 have been introduced. The scientific binomial, authority(ies), recent synonymies, and maps for published state and provincial distributions are provided for each species. An Index to taxa is presented at the end of the paper.
