Academic expenses unique to STEM courses (e.g., scientific textbooks,labequipment,manuals)candeterFLIstudentsfromcontinuingtheirSTEMdegrees. Considerofferingaffordablealternativessuchasanopen-exchangeSTEMlibraryorputtinga statementaboutbasicneedsinyoursyllabustoshowyourcommitmenttosupportingFLIstu-dentlearning[9](see[9]formoreexamplesofstrategiesforfaculty).Understandingthesocio-economicrealitiesofFLIstudentswilltaketimeandrelationshipbuilding.Ournextrulewill offerguidanceonhowyoucanbegintobuildrapportthroughempathyandtrust.",
