Synthesis and conformational studies of poly(β-homolysine)

Poly(β-Nδ-Z-homolysine) (Z = carbobenzyloxy) was synthesized via ring-opening polymerization of β-aminoacid-N-carboxyanhydride (β-NCA). The polymer was chosen because of its good solubility in certain organic solvents which facilitated the synthesis and characterization of the polymer. In addition, the N-deprotected poly-β-homolysine should be water soluble like its α-analog. Studies on the solution conformations of these polymers using circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy are described.
