Abstract

This paper presents a method for continuously monitoring the position of a synchronous machine rotor shaft relative to the no load position at the instant of stator phase A positive maximum voltage. The method utilizes voltage sensing and an optical coupler to sense rotor position from a slotted disc mounted on the rotor shaft end. The measurements consist of pulse trains suitable for processing by one or more microcomputer designs.
