Abstract

The article focuses on the blufftop mounds called Montezuma Mound Group located near the Illinois River in Pike County. Topics discussed include a description of the mounds which are Middle Woodland mortuary monuments according to excavations done in 1904 and 1956, estimates on the number of bifaces recovered in the area, and the publication of basic technological and raw material information on the bifaces as the primary goal of the Montezuma project which started in 2009.
