Abstract

Surface kinetics during growth and ion irradiation of glassy metal films was studied. It was shown that surface kinetics lead to the formation of mesoscopic structures and intrinsic mechanical stress through complex interplay between different atomic processes. It was found that radiation induced viscous flow smoothens the surface and relieves stresses in amorphous films.
