Abstract

Nonlinear electrodynamics in high temperature superconductors was studied using intense terahertz (THz) pulse was used to accelerate the Cooper pairs overcome the energy gap and break the pairs. A plot of the transmitted THz energy against the incident energy showed that the transmission was linear above Tc and exhibited a nonlinear behavior below Tc. The nonlinear ratio of about 20% observed for BSCCO at 12.5K agreed well with theoretical prediction.
