Abstract

The nontraditional methods for evaluating damage tolerance, durability nad fatique life for representing complex material behavior and implementing in-service monitoring devices were discussed. The Army Research Office (ARO) structures and dynamics program developed project and incorporate smart material, which involves activities such as piezoelectric materials, shape memory alloys, electrorheological nad magnetorhelogical fluids and fibre optics. The development of interface modeling technology using a three-field hybrid variational principle to enforce the continuity of displacements and reciprocity of tractions along the common substructure boundaries. It also produces accurate and reliable results for the curved line.
