Abstract
Polarisation-dependent surface-extended X-ray-absorption fine-structure experiments have been performed on Cu(210)-(1 x 2)-O. The analysis shows that oxygen chemisorbs in long-bridge sites along the [001] direction with nearest-neighbour and next-nearest-neighbour O-Cu distances of 1.81 ± 0.02 Å and 1.91 ± 0.03 Å respectively. A missing-row reconstruction with missing [001] Cu rows is suggested.
