State-of-the-art antenna technology: The 2008 antenna applications symposium

Abstract

The 2008 Antenna Applications Symposium, held at the Retreat Center in Robert Allerton Park, provided a unique forum for exchange of ideas and information about antenna design, development and use. Topics at the 2008 symposium included many of the technologies that include arrays, antenna design methods, cost reduction, performance enhancement and platform interactions. The Balanced Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna (BAVA) was the center of attraction, which do not require electrical contact or close proximity to adjacent elements, so arrays can be assembled by using individual elements or small subarrays. Herting and co-workers re-considered the design of a waveguide edge slot array, with a view to reducing manufacturing costs by relaxing mechanical tolerances wherever permitted by the design and the performance requirements. They developed a Monte Carlo-based tolerance analysis method utilizing a standard transmission line model for the edge slot waveguide. Huff and co-workers presented concepts for biologically-inspired antennas based on the rapidly adapting cuttlefish.
