Abstract

Breakage susceptibility (BS) of two corn genotypes was investigated using the Wisconsin breakage tester (WBT) and the Stein CK-2M breakage tester (SBT). Particle size characteristics of the test samples impacted with WBT and SBT were determined using a set of U. S. Standard sieves. The BS and fineness modulus (FM) were independent of sample feed rate in WBT. In SBT, the BS increased and FM decreased with increasing impacting times. A 6-min of impacting in SBT produced breakage equivalent to that in WBT. Due to the wide variation in the results obtained, it may not be appropriate to choose a single type of breakage tester and testing procedure as a standard.
