abstract = "This chapter is devoted to spin-orbit torques and their interplay with the magnetization of magnetically ordered materials. We will introduce basic concepts of spin dynamics and mechanisms to manipulate magnetization by spin torques. Besides that, we will review recent theoretical and experimental progress in this field. The scope of this chapter is to provide an elementary discussion of important aspects of the physics of spin torques as it relates to switching or dynamically exciting magnetization in ferromagnets.",
