Abstract

This special collection from the Journal of Experimental Botany (JXB) celebrates the centenary of the Society for Experimental Biology (SEB), which founded the journal in 1950. To commemorate the SEB's centenary, we commissioned a special series of Centenary Reviews from leading plant scientists that reflect the goals of the society and the diverse range of plant science topics published by JXB, including cell biology (Meinnel and Giglione, 2022; Hartenstein et al., 2023; McFarlane, 2023; Mencia et al., 2023), crop molecular genetics (Alseekh et al., 2023), growth and development (Beveridge et al., 2023; Caumon and Vernoux, 2023; Loupit et al., 2023), photosynthesis and metabolism (Liebers et al., 2022; Velikova et al., 2023; Walsh et al., 2023), and plant-environment interactions (Hernández-Sánchez et al., 2022; Munns and Millar, 2023; Oliveira et al., 2023). In this special collection, we present these Centenary Reviews together with a selection of our flagship Darwin Reviews published in the last year.
