Abstract
The signal gain and saturation intensity of an upconversion-pumped Ho:ZBLAN laser amplifier and oscillator was analyzed. The holonium fibers used in the experiment have a 2.4 μm core, a numerical aperture of 0.28 and Ho-ion concentration of 2500 ppm. By keeping the pump power at 90 mW and varying the seed power, it was found that the gain remains flat up to 50 μW and then slowly decreases, dropping by 2 dB at 600 μW.
