Abstract
Slurs are a type of insult that derogates targets along sundry dimensions. Since the mid-2000s, there has been a significant uptick in theoretical investigations of slurs by philosophers and linguists. In this entry, a brief sketch is provided of the main views appearing in the philosophical literature. The entry concludes with a gesture toward work done by political philosophers, legal theorists, and philosophers of art and aesthetics that investigates the role of slurs in law and expressive objects.
