Abstract

This paper designed and demonstrated a single-mode fiber scanning OCT catheter/endoscope. This device is an enabling technology for OCT and will permit micron scale, cross-sectional medical diagnostic imaging in tissues such as the vascular system, the gastrointestinal tract, the urinary tract, and the ability to perform optical biopsy, to image the microstructure of tissues in situ without the need for excision, should have a significant impact on medical diagnosis and the management of disease.
