Abstract

The analysis of a single cell using capillary electrophoresis (CE) was presented. Most detectors employed for single cell assays have been via electrochemistry or laser-induced fluorescence, which possess the lowest detection limit. In addition to detection improvements, attention is being paid to the acquisition of temporal information from neurons to provide dynamic information about neuro-transmitter release, complementing the static chemical inventory of the cell. The new sampling, separation, and detection strategies with CE are being developed for obtaining an ever-increasing quality of temporal, spatial and chemical information from increasingly minuscale structures.
