Single and paired point defects in a 2D Wigner crystal

The energies of pointlike defects in a clean two-dimensional (2D) electron Wigner crystal were calculated. Focus was on the energy of two kinds of point defects: a vacancy at one of the triangular unit cells. It was shown that the ground state for the two defects is a bound pair.
