Abstract
One of the requirements of an Advanced Life Support System (ALSS) is regeneration of the ingredients required to make palatable and acceptable menu items for crew consumption. This challenging process includes satisfying the nutritional requirements and the taste preferences of the crew members in an ALSS. The appropriate and effective food processing will help achieve these goals. For the food processing in ALSS, several automated machines and equipment are required to save crew labor time. Required tasks, resources, labor, and material flow will be investigated and several food processing scenarios will be investigated. From the result of scenarios, energy requirement, crew time, and other resources will be calculated. This will facilitate trade-off studies of various candidate technologies.
