Abstract
The location of firms and spatial competition is affected by consumer trip patterns. We postulate a consumer shopping model to determine the optimal level of multipurpose shopping. This is used in a simulation framework to study the nature of spatial competition. Results show that the equilibrium pattern is markedly different from that when multipurpose trips are not allowed.
