Abstract

An analytical solution is presented that models the stresses developed during the quench and temper processing of a railroad wheel. The effects of time dependent deformation and temperature dependent properties on the theoretically determined residual stresses are evaluated using an incremental solution. The results indicate that time dependent creep effects significantly influence the overall residual stress profile.
