Abstract

This paper explores the appropriateness of a 2D solution in computing the short circuit forces in shell type distribution transformers, and how 2D compares to 3D analysis. The use of detailed simulations to calculate short-circuit forces and stresses and perform parametric analysis is illustrated. Skin and proximity effects are considered, and their effect on the force distribution is studied.
