Abstract

This paper presents results from a national survey of unvented combustion fireplace owners. The survey asked questions about the homes, the selection and installation of the fireplaces, and the usage of the fireplaces. Comparisons of responses for questions pertinent to indoor air quality, especially related to whether or not the owners used the fireplaces as a primary heat source, were analyzed. The survey shows that many people use the fireplaces in ways that are counter to the industry recommendation of use as a supplemental heater.
